Increased Demand Brings More Business To Boat Dealers in Missouri
The Missouri and Mississippi rivers are the state of Missouri’s great waterways, and many intrepid adventurers exploit this advantage with boating as a popular activity for sports and travel in the region. Boating activities, however, depend on temperature and water levels at any given time during the season—and by extension, boats and related crafts, become tough sell during extended chilly temperatures and higher water levels, as have occurred in the early part of the year.
So it is with a sigh of relief that dependable boat dealers in Missouri like White’s Marine Center welcome the recent upswing in sales. Reagan Haynes reports on the positive trend in an article for Trade Only Today:
“We’re on a continued upswing,” Info-Link managing director Jack Ellis told Trade Only Today. “April has essentially demonstrated what we as an industry had been predicting or hoping. We’re going to come out the other end of this brutal winter and people will start buying boats again, even though it’s a little later than last year.”
On a 12-month rolling basis, outboards continued to drive the industry’s growth, with about a 10,000-unit increase from May 2013 through April 2014, Ellis said. Unit sales of powerboats had continued their five-year momentum, edging up over the 140,000 mark.
The increased interest in boating is, in turn, encouraging even more people to buy, including families. Those interested, however, have to keep a few things in mind. First, consider what you intend to use the boat for. Is the family interested to get a boat ideal for activities, such as fishing, sailing, or sporting games like water or jet skiing. Your purpose will guide your purchase options.
Next, comes the logistics. Is the boat traveling, for the most part, on a river, a lake, or out at sea? What’s the maximum number of people you intend to have on the boat while out in the water? The choice of transporting the boat via car, or having it tied up at the dock will also influence the type of boat you’ll be buying.
Finally, your budget dictates the type of boat you can afford to pay for and maintain. Consider fuel and maintenance costs so you’ll have to do some research on engines that can be both efficient and cost-saving. Brand new boats are great, but there are many dependable used boats for sale in Missouri that are just as serviceable and useful. Whichever type you go for, remember to give each one a test drive before buying, to see how smooth and flexible the boat feels to you.
