Fun Activities to Do on Your Boat
Owning a boat is a rewarding experience that grants you the freedom to explore the lakes and rivers around you to your heart’s content. You can take friends and family on fun adventures and make lots of great memories just cruising around. But what if you want to plan a specific activity? The good news is that boating also offers you access to dozens of great marine-based activities that you can do either by yourself or with others.
White's Marine Center in Pittsburg is your Missouri boat dealer. Here’s a list of activities that you can try to get even more enjoyment out of your boat.
1. Water Skiing
This classic watersport has been popular since the mid-20th century with all kinds of boaters and sports-minded folk. It’s pretty inexpensive as a hobby and the skis can be used by several different people so you don’t need multiple sets. You’ll have a tow rope to pull your water skier and someone to keep an eye on them while they skip along the water’s surface.
2. Wakeboarding
A sort of modern cousin of water skiing and surfing is wakeboarding, where the rider is strapped to a board and holds onto a tow rope that pulls them across the water. You can use many types of boats for this purpose, provided they can produce the wakes needed for wakeboarders to jump and they have a strong enough motor to get up to the appropriate speeds.
3. Fishing
This is another iconic boating activity, since fishing from a boat is much more fun and productive than trying to catch fish from a dock or riverbank. Actually getting out onto the water gives you much more access to different types of fish.
Whether you choose to catch-and-release just for fun or you’re looking for something delicious to grill up for dinner tonight, fishing is both relaxing and rewarding, and it can be done in the company of others or by yourself, if you prefer. Fishing equipment is easy to find and it’s easy enough that children can do it.
4. Boat Camping
Spending a night or two on your boat is another great way to get more enjoyment out of it. Of course, you’ll want to have a boat with an enclosed cabin for this that has sleeping berths and a head (bathroom), but you can anchor out in the water or cruise along the river or around the lake before pulling into a marina slip and watching the sunset as the water gently rocks you.
5. Dinner on the Water
Why not turn your boat into the perfect picnic spot? You can either pack a picnic basket at home with delicious food, cook in a galley if you have one or pull up to a dock and phone in a take-out order at a dockside restaurant. Eating dinner (or any meal) on your boat is a relaxing way to spend an evening.
6. Sunbathing & Swimming
If you’ve got kids, they probably love to swim, and the nice thing about a boat with a swim platform or a ladder is that you can easily enter and exit the water. Head out on a sunny day and find your own isolated spot to anchor your boat for some swimming and sunbathing and pleasant conversation.
